Lee’s lads focused on maximum Midvaal points

Lee Thompson Racing’s quartet of Volkswagen Cup racers head to Midvaal Raceway outside Meyerton on the South Rand Saturday 14 October fully focussed on their championship positions as the 2017 series winds down through its last three meetings. All four drivers are keen to continue their recent great progress in the title race.

“We're leading Class A and second in Class C,” team boss Lee Thompson explained. “We need Iain to open up his advantage, while Shane, Waldie and Wayne are all out to improve their title lots — let’s do this!”

The man out front in Class A is Iain Pepper — the veteran racer and team owner returned to the wheel of his Husqvarna Motorcycles LTR Polo this year and was quickly on the pace and has been unbeatable over the past few rounds to move into the class championship lead last time out. “I’m just going to go have some fun again and hopefully get another decent result,” Iain explained. “I’m leading Class A and 3rd overall, but my main rival is just three points behind in both chases so we can’t afford a slip.”

Lee Thompson Racing’s other two Class A men, Waldie Meintjes and Delway driver Wayne Crous both find themselves in the midst of a five-car battle for third in Class A, with Meintjes currently fourth. “We had a slow start to the season — had to sort through a few issues, but we have become far quicker as the season has progressed,” Waldie pointed out. “So it's head down — I need to win a few races — we have the pace so its down to me now.”

Teammate Crous may just be Waldie’s biggest hassle this weekend, if his recent pace is anything to go by: “I am quite eager to race at Midvaal,” Wayne admitted. “I plan to start off where I left off at Red Star and I can’t wait to get in the mix with the old boys and to learn from my epic teammates. “It’s going to be a very good weekend for the team!” Wayne is only nine points off Waldie Meintjes in sixth in the Class title chase and can make good progress again this weekend.”

Younger Crous brother Shaun sits second in Class C and seventh in the overall championship chases in his Ancro Construction LTR Polo Vivo, albeit quite come way off class leader Atkinson. “Midvaal is going to be a good race and I can’t wait to get back on the track,” Shaun confirmed. “It is by God’s love and grace that we can race again and just want to thank Lee Thompson Racing and Ancro building projects for making everything possible.”
