Jayden Els is Gauteng Junior Max king

Stepping up to the high school Junior Max championship this year may have been a daunting move for Boksburg’s 2016 World Mini Rok champion Jayden Els. It was a big step for Els, who initially struggled to find the correct balance in his rookie year in the bigger, twice as powerful kart, but as the season rolled on, the little guy came to grips with his equipment and by the end of Saturday’s final round Northern Regions finale at Vereeniging’s Laserfiche Raceway, Jayden had added the Gauteng Junior Max title to his rapidly growing racing CV…

“We went in to the weekend knowing that I only needed to beat my teammate Cameron Dias to take the title,” Jayden explained. “But we wound up racing together with the Senior Max guys and that did not make it any easier — the track was very tricky and confusing with lap times going off after only three or four 4 laps, we knew our chassis set-up was crucial. “We got it right though and I won all three races to secure the championship!

“I would like to thank Leeroy Poulter and Xtreme team as well as Mark Williams from GMP for all the effort they put in to help us win. “Also special thanks to Ed Murray Racing and CRG for the support and most of all to my dad who has made it all possible for me to race in the first place! “Now we are looking forward to next year with all my old Mini Rok competitors joining the class — but the big focus is to push for National Title too — bring it on!”
