Alibhai storms to debut Junior Max victory

Ormonde karting prodigy Aqil Alibhai started his high school karting career on an absolute high on Saturday as he stormed to a dominant victory in his first Junior Max races at the opening round of the Northern Regions championships at the Zwartkops International Kart Raceway. Kosmic-mounted class rookie Alibhai qualified fourth for the opening race before taking second in the first race and then fighting off Jayden Els and Kwanda Mokoena to win the second and third races and take a fine debut win.

“Wow - what a way to start off in Junior Max!” a delighted Aqil asked after taking the flag. “I have been racing since I was five years old and all the years of driving and the experience is now paying off. “Junior Max is a big step up from Maxterino where I won the championship last year. I was confident in my kart and with our preparations for the first race, but I never ever expected a win against the bigger boys first time out.

“We have worked hard to gain experience and my time racing in Europe a few seasons ago is making all the difference now - and I am really excitied for the year ahead — 2018 certainly looks promising. “I must thank my dad and my RKT team for all the effort so far, the next race is the first national at iDube, which will be huge in Junior Max, but there are probably 20 kids who can win, so its going to be epic - I can’t wait!”
