Visser impresses abroad despite issues

Durbanville, Cape Town kart racer Charl Visser enjoyed a positive weekend in Italy with an impressive performance at the 29th South Garda Karting Spring Trophy, where he raced in the Junior Rok class driving for BabyRace. Visser enjoyed good pace throughout the weekend, but suffered a down of power engine in his final heat to drop down the starting grid before fighting back from 23rd to 16th in the Final.

“We had a good weekend overall,” Charl reported. “I qualified well for the first heat, but that was a tricky race and I brought it home 13th in heat 2 and started final heat 10th. “I was up to 8th when engine lost power and I dropped back to finish a frustrating 18th. “We called the engine builder, who stripped the engine and found nothing mechanical, so we changed the ECU module and held our thumbs for the Final and happily it worked.

“Still I started down in 23rd and fought hard to end up 16th, my pace was good and I set the fastest lap in one of the heats. “It’s such a pity for the engine trouble in the final heat — I was on for a top ten start and who knows in the final, but that’s racing and I will take plenty positives home. “First I have the small matter of the opening round of South African Junior Max championship at iDube this coming weekend — we had a good pre run there and I am now really ready after Lonato — bring it on!”
