Boyd piles on the points at Killarney

Camps Bay’s SA Junior Max karting champion Sebastian Boyd survived a wild weekend’s karting to post a decent points score on his switch to a Boyd Boss Freight Praga chassis at the third round of the WP karting championships on Saturday. SACS College Grand 9 scholar Boyd was part of a frantic five-kart race for the first race before ending fifth in the second race and going out of the final, but still ended up fifth for the day.

“It was our first weekend with the Praga and we are still learning, but it was so good to have Shaheen Goolam and the Praga guys come down to support us — I’m really looking forward to getting his kart right!” Sebastian explained. “The first race was crazy — Luke Herring went super-defensive and bottled four of us up behind him and I was a little unlucky to be in the wrong place when the real trouble started and I was held up as I avoided it to end up fifth.

“My gearbox was jumping out of gear in race 2, which was not ideal, so I was pretty happy with fifth and then fifth for the day. “We would have preferred better but in truth, today was more of a shakedown and I’m super-excited about getting the chassis sorted — it has so much potential. “Thanks so much to Shaheen and Praga for all the effort and as always to my dad and my team — now we have a little time to get ready for the Vereeniging national — I can’t wait!”
