Visser sweeps Killarney karts again

Durbanville, Cape Town primary school kart racer Kyle Visser took his second double Killarney victory home on the trot when he raced to Mini Max and Mini Rok victory in spite of several challenges in both classes at Saturday’s third round Western Province championship meeting. It was however a tougher weekend for big brother Charl who also felt the bumps of a crunching day at the races with a troubled fourth in Junior Max.

Kyle however made the under-13 classes his own with two hard-fought victories in both Mini Rok and Mini Max, where he defeated Joaquin de Oliveira two races to one in Max, while taking the Rok class in similar two-win-to-one style over Lucas Royston. Both middle races proved hard nuts to crack as the younger Visser fell victim to some robust driving but he bounced back each time to win the finals and extend his iron grip on the WP Mini Rok title chase, while moving into the joint lead of the Mini Max championship with Michael Fernandez.

“Wow — that was a tough day at the races!” Kyle beamed. “It’s my second double-win in a row and none of them come easy — we work hard for it! “Thanks as always to my main men Zefry Ngoben, Big Show and of course my mom and dad — we head to Vereeniging next week fo the pre-national to prepare for the national there at the end of the month — it’s a tough schedule, but it’s worth it — I can’t wait!”

Killarney proved a less memorable day for big brother Charl in rough and tough high school Junior Max with a couple of seconds for the day — the first after a coming together in race 1 — each side of a catastrophe when Charl’s kart stopped before the race 2 start and the team could only get him out a lap after the race had started.

“We were a little out of luck today, but two second places are better than nothing and I also need to thank everyone who jumped in to help get my kart running when it stopped before the second race. “Now we look forward to the national — we are in a strong position there and I can’t wait for Vereeniging — bring it on!”
