Coetzee takes two Killarney kart wins

Durbanville lad Jason Coetzee enjoyed a great weekend at Killarney’s fourth round Western Cape Karting Championship races on Saturday to take a pair of overall wins in both Senior Max and DD2. It may have been a lucky win in DD2, but Coetzee utterly dominated proceedings to take pole position before demolishing his opposition with three lights to flag wins en route to the Senior Max victory.

“I am so happy about my day in Senior Max,” Jason explained. “I've been a bit unlucky there recently — we lost national wins thanks to silly mistakes and I was beaten fair and square in the regionals over the last two races, but I have put a lot of work into my preparation in that class with my SAKRA Kosmic and it paid off over the weekend. “Saturday was tricky early on with a wet track in qualifying and damp for race 1, but that played into my hands and from there we just kept the momentum up.

“DD2 was a bit luckier — I benefited from my EMR Extreme CRG Teammate Jurie Swart retiring with a gear linkage issue to win race 1 and that gave me enough of points advantage to take the day with a couple of second places, but I had to work for those because Sebastian Boyd was really on my case and I had to fight him off in both those heats. A win is a win however and I will take my first overall DD2 honours with both hands.

“Thanks to everyone who was there for me over the weekend, but there’s no rest for the wicked — we are off to Pretoria for the third round of the Northern Regions championships at Zwartkops next and I can’t wait to race up there — bring it on!”
