Zwartkops is the race Engen Polo Cup drivers want to win most — the home track to most of the teams that race the series, drivers know the circuit backwards and teams understand how to perfectly set the cars up for best results, so to win there is a certain feather in the cap and that’s exactly what Pepper Racing did this past weekend. Tasmin Pepper put it on pole position before delivering a pair of lights to flag wins to take the day overall, while teammate Shaun la Reservee overcame a tough weekend to bring it home second in Masters behind Tasmin, while Campos brothers, Keegan took 7th for the day and Jason was eliminated from race 1 in a major first lap crash before coming home third in Masters in race 2.

Tasmin Pepper qualified her Electric Life Pepper racing Polo third, but went fastest in Superpole to take pole position in race 1, before leaving the drama in her wake to win both races while also scoring the fastest lap in both races. “What an awesome day!” Tasmin admitted. “The car was amazing all weekend, Shane and my dad put in an extreme amount of effort and everything just came together — I’m glad we walked away with the win we have worked so hard for! “Now to continue the momentum into the remaining rounds of the championship starting at East London next month.”

Shaun la Reservee qualified his Alpine Volkswagen Pepper Racing Polo down in 14th and avoided the first lap drama to line up for the restart to come home 9th, which became 8th in race 1 and second in Masters to make it a Pepper Racing 1-2. Shaun then added a seventh in race 2 and second in Masters again to emerge sixth overall for the day and second in Masters. “I struggled a little in qualifying,” Shaun explained. “But I managed to pull a rabbit out the hat in the two races and bagged some good points. “We have a little work to do before East London, but we are on the right track — thanks to the team for a great weekend!”

Keegan Campos qualified his Campos Transport Pepper Racing Polo in tenth and also avoided the first lap drama to come home 7th in race 1, before being promoted to 6th after a rival was penalised and drove to ninth in race 2 to bag 7th overall and fifth among the Juniors. “Another tough weekend, but we brought home some solid points again,” Keegan pointed out. “Polo Cup is a truly tough class and to run up front here takes hard work and effort — we are putting that in and plan to move up the grid — can’t wait for East London!”

Jason Campos qualified his Turn 1 Insurance Pepper Racing Polo 13th, but was caught up in the turn 1 fracas and retired from race, but I bounced back to take third in Masters to complete a Pepper Racing Masters 1-2-3 in the final. “There are a lot of positives to take from a really tough weekend,” Jason confessed. “The car was really good, but qualifying was not as good as it could have been, so I was on the back foot for both races and I was knocked into the car ahead and punctured my radiator so had to retire from race 1. “The team did a fantastic job to rebuild the car in time for race 2, but we missed a shifted gear linkage, which made it difficult in race 2. “Thanks to the lads and well done Tazzy on a superb performance!”

“In all a great weekend, with an overall win and a 1-2 in Masters,” team boss Iain Pepper concluded. “Now to keep the momentum rolling into East London!”
