Daniel's character building weekend

Ballito racer Daniel Duminy bounced back from a trying weekend to take a fine fourth to stand on the Junior podium at the fourth round of the Engen Polo Cup at the East London Grand Prix circuit on Saturday. Duminy qualified his SMD Racing VMR Polo twelfth on the grid and was up to eighth on the last lap of the first heat before a gearbox issue saw him slip to 11th, but Daniel bounced back to score a fine fourth overall and third among the Junior drivers in race 2 for 8th overall and sixth among the Juniors for the day.

“That was a really big character building weekend!” Daniel revealed. “We did not need Friday’s practice sessions troubles — we were 2.5 seconds off the pace due to some technical issues — luckily we found the issue after the second session and had to use qualifying as a test session so we were only 12th on the grid, but I was 8th when I lost gears on the last corner of the last lap and I dropped to 11th by the flag.

“I was 12th on the grid once again for race 2 but with an amazing start and a hard battle, fought my way up to fourth overall and third in Juniors, so the day came to me in the end. “Special thanks to my team, Jeandrè Allner & Brandon Gammage for everything you guys did over the weekend, to my team boss Vic Maharaj for your advice and help and to my mom Wendy, for your continuous support, as well as all my supporters at the track and on the social media — all glory to God Almighty!”
