Port Elizabeth race fans can look forward to a special treat when the G&H Transport Extreme Supercars take to the newly resurfaced Aldo Scribante Racetrack, Nelson Mandela Bay in anger for the first time as the Extreme Festival South African national championship motor races visit Nelson Mandela Bay Saturday 14 July. PE racegoers will be treated to the fastest racing Ferraris, Lamborghinis and Porsches, and possibly even an Aston Martin and a Viper racing door-to-door against some trick BMWs and Audis, while even a contingent of local racers take on the upcountry visitors.

Although Saturday will be their first visit to the Bay, the G&H Extreme Supercars have become a regular attraction at racetracks around South Africa and local race aficionados are champing at the bit in anticipation of the action expected when the likes of Simon Murray and Ricky Giannoccoro’s Lamborghinis take to the track against Ferrari men, brothers Mark and Jonathan du Toit and Jimmy Giannoccoro; a gang of Porsches steered by the likes of Franco and Dino Scribante, Ant Blunden and Nicky Dicks; and Dawie Olivier’s wild ‘Baby Beemer’.

One man still not sure which car he should load into the transporter to send down to the Bay, is Vereeniging driver Charl Arangies, who has taken to the social media for help in his decision whether to bring his almost unbeatable Aston Martin Vantage V12 GT3 to Aldo Scribante, or to make a race of it behind the wheel of his Lamborghini Gallardo. Either way, Arangies should be a frontrunner at Aldo, while another driver understood to be making similar choices is Craig Jarvis who had to pick between a Viper and a Ferrari.

The racetrack named after the late Aldo Scribante sees three of his spawn racing, as besides Dino and Franco, grandson Aldo will be one of four locals out to defend PE honour against the fleet of visiting BMWs and the like. Aldo’s familiar Audi and three more local favourites, Nick Davidson’s similar S4, Kevin Kelly’s Mitsubishi Lancer Evo and Ian Riddle’s BMW will take it to upcountry rivals the likes of  Gianni Gianoccoro, Kishoor Pitamber and Elwyn Steenkamp’s BMWs and Johan Hattingh in a Nissan 350Z.

That’s of course also over and above the fraught battle at the front of the Sasol GTC, the Engen Polo Cup and the single-seater Investchem Formula 1600 chase on the Road to Indy, as well as two motorcycle classes in the Red Square Kawasaki ZX10 Masters and the Bridgestone Thunderbikes round off a spectacular race program.

The Aldo Scribante Racetrack has benefited a complete resurface in the build-up to the big day, with a little help from Scribante Construction, so the racing should prove closer than ever and first suggestions already point toward a dramatic improvement in the circuit’s old bugbear of extreme tyre wear. That, along with the prospect of closest possible national championship battles coming to town should leave locals with little option but to cross Saturday 14 July out of their calendars in preparation for a great day’s racing at Aldo Scribante.
