Shared wins the order of the day in Jozi

Q4 Fuel Husqvarna Racing enjoyed another excellent day at the races at Saturday’s fourth round of the 2018 TRP Distributors SA National Motocross Championship at Terra Topia north of Johannesburg. Q4 Fuel Husqvarna team riders Caleb Tennant and Maddy Malan shared out the wins and seconds in the 250cc MX2 races to share the class win for the day too, while Tennant ended up in a three-way tie for the points win in 450cc MX1 championships to consolidate his South African championship lead in both classes and Neil van der Vyver ended fifth overall in the 65cc class.

Cape Town rider Tennant enjoyed a great day all round with moto wins in both classes. “It’s a pity for that tumble I took at the start of the second MX2 heat, but the rest of the weekend really was great,” Caleb admitted. “Maddy and I did it for the team in MX2 and I increased my championship lead there. “It seems everyone had trouble along the way in MX1, so despite having to fight from back to sixth in the second race, I ended up in a three-way tie for the points win on the day and opened up that title lead by a point too! ”Thanks to the team for the best machinery once again — now for my home race in Cape Town next month — bring it on!”

Maddy Malan was delighted with his MX2 performance, but frustrated with his MX1 run. “It was great to share the MX2 honours with my Q4 Fuel Husqvarna teammate and even better to take that first moto win,” Pietermaritzburg rider Maddy smiled. “MX1 was a bit more of a challenge though  — I lost a lap picking it up after taking a tumble on the fifth lap of the first moto and had a reasonable run to fourth in race 2. “I sit fourth in both championships, but its very close for second in MX2, so we have it all to do — I have the best team behind me, so let’s make it happen!”

Young Neil van der Vyver met his objectives aboard his Q4 Fuel Husqvarna in the 65cc class. “I qualified seventh but neither of my starts were good enough, so I spent most of the day fighting my way back towards the front,” Capetonian Neil explained. “I made it to seventh in race 1, which was OK but too far from my goal of fifth overall for the day, but I had a better second race to fourth to achieve my aims after all! “My Q4 Husqvarna team was fantastic as always and can't wait for my home national next at Zone 7 in Cape Town on 11 August!”

“Q4 Fuel Husqvarna Racing had another great weekend at the team’s home track,” Husqvarna Motorcycles South Africa Brand Manager Fred Fensham concluded. “Three moto wins for our two open class riders, shared wins in both classes and a consolidated lead in the two main national motocross championships was another great haul for Caleb and Maddy, while Neil bounce back to meet his objectives. “Good news is Cape Town is back on after the good rains down there and Zone 7 is both Caleb and Neil’s home track — roll on 11 August!”
