Lupini starts race season with a clean sweep

Giordano Lupini got his 2019 season off to a perfect start when he raced his Accelerate 102 Special Gasoline/CIR Construction/La Vie de Luc Golf 1 to a dominant Class C win in Saturday's Burly Pro GTi Challenge races at Killarney's season-opening Wingfield Motors Power Series day. Lupini put it on pole position before taking both race wins and setting the fastest lap of the day.

“Today was perfect,” Giordano admitted. “Pole, a double win and the fastest lap for a full haul of points to open the season —  we could not ask for more,” the Vega University BComm freshman explained. “Qualifying was awesome, even though my boot came open, but that turned out fine because I put it on pole by seven-tenths of a second.

“Race 1 was good — I had a great start, but I got caught up behind come Class B cars and that allowed my Class C rivals to get into my slipstream, which made for a very interesting race with side-by side action until the very end. “Race 2 was awesome — I started third and managed to get up to second by Turn 3 and into the lead by the end of the back straight and then I led all the way from there, so it was a perfect day.

“So yes, I’m super happy — we've finally dodged that bad luck that has dogged us for a couple of seasons and I’m ready to take on the rest of the year. “Special thanks to Gozzi, Greg and the GAP Racing lads for a super car, to Accelerate for that 102 advantage and the rest of our sponsors, CIR Construction, La Vie de Luc, Taki’s Place Franschhoek, Motorsport Media and acciDent Guru and my family and friends for all the support — you guys rock!"
