Can anyone beat Silvio and Aldo at home?

The Eastern Province motor racing season moves on to its second round with another full car and bike regional raceday at Port Elizabeth’s Aldo Scribante Racetrack on Saturday. All eyes will be on Scribante brothers Silvio and Aldo, who dominated the EP Regional Saloons last time out, while the locals will be out for revenge against Cape insurgents who won last time out.

Former Production Car racer Silvio and brother and teammate Aldo Scribante were the men to beat last time out aboard their Audi S4s despite the best efforts of Bevan Schwartz’ Corvette and Nick Davidson in a similar Audi. There remains a chance that rapid Cape driver Niyaaz Modack will make the trip to shake things up in another Audi S5, so the main focus promises much interest.

Another man looking to bounce back is Kevin Kelly, who had a torrid first race with his Class B Mitsubishi Lancer Evo and he's out to stop Deon Slabbert’s quick Polo and we hear of a few other mouthwatering new and returning Class B prospects too. BMW men Rufus Neethling and Stephan Aucamp are the men to beat in Class C and D respectively, Daniel Bright’s Golf leads the way in the Class E title chase and Wickus Basson (BMW) heads up Class F — can anyone topple any of them?

The EP Unlimited, 600cc and Masters motorcycle races promise scintillating action too, with Unlimited rider Paul Roelofse (Yamaha) and 600 man Ivor Vermaak taking on George flyer Ricardo Otto fresh back from National duty and Regardt Koen, who makes a return after missing the first round races.

The Powersport Breakfast Run and Masters motorcycle races will see the likes of Historic Suzuki rider  Malcolm Burrows take on Honda 400 men Chad Bilsbury and Ray Wood and 300 lass Jessica Howden (Yamaha) among others. Add returning Suzuki trio Glen Elliott; Irfaan Johnson and Remi van den Berg and Ian Meaker’s Ducati, while fast Jaco Scholtz was still to enter at the time of writing, leaving his rivals to wonder if he will be there.

Back on four wheels, Coastal Challenge & Historic & Classic Saloons, last round winner Shaun Rudolph (Escort), Deon Gouws (Kadett), Rane Berry (Skyline) will be keen to take advantage of the absence of Rudolf de Vos whose glorious Chevy Can Am is in for a little TLC. Anton Ehlers (Escort), Darryn Vice's Anglia and Gordon Bennett (Rekord) will be among the men chasing them.

Quinsley Sale (Ariel Atom) is another man looking for a clean sweep following a successful run in the opening two Sports & GT races, to take revenge over Gordon Nicholson (Nissan GT-R), who took race 3 to take the day overall last time out from Kean Barnard (Lotus 7) and Sale who hit trouble in race 3. Lotus 7 trio Joel Steenkamp, Patrick Hanly and Jeandre Marais will also be among those out to stop all of the above.

Last but not least,  the popular and varied Street and Fine Cars will see the rest of the field out to stop Tom Hugo (Skyline) from dominating again this weekend. They include BMW duo Francois and Tertius Wium, Warren Oats, Ian Roberts (Golf) and Chris van der Walt.

Aldo Scribante Race Track is always a fun-filled day for the whole family to head to trackside with gazebos, cooler bags, braai and deckchairs and enjoy a sizzling day’s motor racing.
