Pepson team ready for Lesotho challenge

There is no rest for the wicked they say and that applies squarely to Pepson Plastics Husqvarna Racing, which heads to its second off road national in as many weekends at the third round of the 2019 South African National Enduro Championship, the Live Lesotho Enduro near Thaba Bosiu in the Mountain Kingdom.

And with William Oosthuizen so far dominant in the E1 class, Brett Swanepoel third in E2 and Matthew Green sixth in the E1 title chase, the team is looking forward to another strong weekend.

Mossel Bay rider Oosthuizen has been dominant in the E1 200cc class, winning the class in both the KZN Jolivet season opener and again in Britz in the Northwest over the Easter weekend. “We have put everything into this season and so far it has paid off handsomely,” William explained.

“We are however by no means in a comfortable championship position as Lloyd Kirk was second in both the season opening races and he sits just six points behind in the title chase, so we cannot afford to rest on our laurels. “My awesome Pepson Plastics Husqvarna team will give me a perfect machine again in Lesotho, so it’s up to me to squeeze the best out of it — let’s do this!"

Salt Rock racer Brett Swanepoel has enjoyed an encouraging comeback after sitting out 2018 due to injury and he sits joint third in open class E2 after coming home sixth and fourth in the opening rounds. “If I can keep on progressing as I have in the first two races, it should not be too long before I am right back on my game,” Brett admitted. “It’s been a long road back so there is no need to rush it, but I am really looking forward to attacking the Malutis this weekend.”

Nottingham Road lad Matthew Green is keen to add more points to his championship tally after a promising second round.  “I am sitting in the middle of a five-bike five-point fight for fourth in the national E1 title race,” Brett pointed out. “Now I need a good result in Lesotho to pull ahead of that group and launch an attack on the frontrunners, so the plan is for a solid finish this weekend.”

“William is leading the E1 championship for Pepson Plastics Husqvarna Racing and Brett and Matt have had decent starts to their season,” Husqvarna Motorcycles South Africa brand manager Fred Fensham concluded. “All three have proven themselves in Lesotho so here’s to a very good weekend — and a special word of thanks to the team who have been at it almost non stop since our successful last weekend in the Bokkeveld Cross Country — go for it lads!”
