Two thirds and a fifth in France

Bloemfontein youngster Stuart White enjoyed a positive second round French Formula 4 weekend at the tight and twisty Pau street circuit. White drove his Sauber Engineering Mygale to stunning double pole positions in wet qualifying, before ending third in the opening race, moving up from 8th to 5th on the reverse top-10 second race and then taking another third in the final.

We had a pretty good weekend and scored goof points in all three races at Pau,” Stuart confirmed “Qualifying was amazing in the wet however difficult as the track was improving every lap, but I timed it right to steal pole for the first and third races. "Unfortunately I tried a bit too hard and hit the wall on my next flying lap and I must thank the team for fixing the mess I caused, but I was still delighted with two poles for the first and third races!

“The first race was tough — I lost the lead off the line and then lost second while trying to fight to get the lead back in a very close race between the top three, so not quite the result we wanted starting from pole, but I was happy with a podium and scoring good points towards the championship.

“Race 2 was good — I started 8th as this was a reverse top-ten grid and while it is very difficult to overtake on the narrow streets of Pau, I still managed to pull off some good overtaking moves to fight my way up to fifth by the flag and scored a few more vital championship points and then the third race started much like the first, but this one was a bit more stretched out and I ended up third.

"In all, a good weekend and a good points haul, so special thanks to all our partners who have made it possible for this incredible dream come true — now it's time to focus on the next race at Spa Francorchamps in Belgium, where we won in French Formula 4 in 2017, so the aim is to do the same again this year…"
