Title leader Kenny to miss Lesotho race

Pepson Plastics Husqvarna Racing suffered a setback in the build-up to the Live Lesotho 400 Cross Country race on 27 July when star rider and championship leader Kenny Gilbert took a tumble during testing and will be unable to defend his points lead in the Malutis.

“Kenny Gilbert will unfortunately not be racing the Lesotho Live 400,” Husqvarna Motorcycles South Africa brand manager Fred Fensham confirmed. “Kenny fell in testing and has suffered an injury that will essentially keep him out of the rest of the South African Cross Country Motorcycle Championship season.

“As heartbreaking as it is that he is unable to defend his brilliant championship lead, Pepson Plastics Husqvarna Racing’s primary concern is for Kenny — we are fully behind our star rider and will contribute whatever we can to see him back up to speed as soon as possible.

“Pepson Plastics Racing has drafted former SA OR2 champion Brett Swanepoel into the team in Kenny’s place aboard our open class OR1 Husqvarna,” Fensham concluded. “He will race alongside our OR2 rider Taki Bogiages in the Lesotho race — we wish the team the best of luck for the weekend.”
