Cape Town’s V8 Masters racers went to Johannesburg for their 7th round races as they joined in what was likely SA's biggest ever V8 only race at Kyalami’s Festival of Motoring, where the visitors delivered a show the crowd will not soon forget. The series for drivers over 40 joined the quicker upcountry Mobil V8 Supercars on track where Fabio Tafani was quickest of the Cape cars in qualifying before sharing the race wins with Sean Moore.

Tafani put it on pole position ahead of Moore and Masters Silver class leader, Alistair Simpson Friday afternoon before the Masters starred in the first race as Tafani drove from 17th overall on the grid to a fine seventh overall ahead of Moore, Rui Campos (Campos Transport) and Silver winner Alistair Simpson. Gold driver Brian Evans (Cape Eye Laser) as next up ahead of Silver man, Fanie Theron, Mark Ridgway and Silver trio Andrew Strike, Alister Brown, Michael Brooks and Harry Taylor after Rob Warrington retired with engine failure.

The second race brought better reliability throughout, which also left the V8 Masters to entertain in their own race as Moore made a great start from his reverse grid slot, while Tafani took some time to make his way through the pack before hauling Moore in. Sean was having none of it as he held his ground to take a thrilling 0.3 second win over Pretoria championship leader Fabio, who normally travels to the Cape to race.

Silver class winner Alistair Simpson was third ahead of another Jozi local Rui Campos with Mark Ridgway next up from Silver class drivers Harry Taylor, Andrew Strike, Fanie Theron. Michael Brooks, Rhoderick Simpson and Johann van de Venter as Alister Brown stopped after six laps.

The V8 Masters now head back to Killarney for their next race at the Cape Power Series races in two weeks time on 7 October.
