Motlekar wins day to steal title third

The 2019 race season could not have ended on a better note for Ghazi Motlekar. Not only did karting rookie Motlekar win his first race weekend overall with two out of three wins on the day to add to his maiden heat win a few weeks ago, but he also secured third in the Gauteng under-13 Mini Max championship at the Zwartkops Northern Regions Rotax Max karting finale on Saturday.

“Wow, what a way to finish my 2019 season!” Dainfern lad Ghazi admitted. “We knew we had good pace when I qualified second alongside SA champion Troy Snyman on Saturday morning and then that first race was incredible — we had a brilliant dice and I managed to beat Troy to the line by half a second. “Troy got me back in another close race 2 — by just seven hundredths of a second, so it was all to play for in our last racing heat of the season.

“That final was special — I took the win — and the day by a tenth to move up to third in the final Northern Regions Mini Max championship in my rookie year, which is so much more than we ever expected — what a day! Special thanks to my team — Wes and uncle Hughie Orr, my dad and my family — we now look forward to chasing the 2020 Mini Max title — most of the kids ahead of me this year move up, so this win sees us start the new season on the front foot — bring it on — we can’t wait!"
