De Klerk’s Saudi Arabian dream starts here

South Africa’s Dakar 2018 rookie winner Hennie de Klerk unveiled his new TreasuryOne Nissan Navara set to take on Dakar 2020 and the Saudi Arabian Desert at a function in Pretoria Wednesday evening. The all-new Nismo V8-powered South African made Nismo V8-powered Red-Lined Nissan Navara VK56 is the last piece in de Klerk’s puzzle to arrive better prepared than ever for the toughest race in the world.

“It’s all new for Dakar 2020 Saudi Arabia,” Hennie explained. “We have a new car, a new navigator and a new team; we will be tackling new terrain on new territory in Saudi Arabia and now we are all counting the sleeps to the start! “The plan this year is to bring home a top-twenty finish — we were best rookies in Dakar South America 2018 with Gerhard Schutte navigating in our old faithful Amarok in South America, but we have now stepped up a gear and we just can’t wait to get racing in January.

“This year I have Johann Smalberger reading the notes and we have stepped up to our new TreasuryOne Red-Lined Nissan Navara — it’s a more powerful, better balanced car with all the latest contemporary technology and comes with additional Red-Lined support in the desert. “As you can see, our car is ready to race — it leaves immediately from today’s launch to Durban and will then be shipped to Saudi Arabia over the weekend, where it lands in Jeddah on 20 December.

"The team flies out on 28 December and will unpack the car and equipment and we follow on the 30th, where we will do final preparations leading up to the start on 5 January. “From there it's a huge adventure into the vast unknown of the Arabian Desert — bring it on — we can’t wait!”
