Masters title fight to thrill Killarney

A full field of V8 Masters racers will line up at Killarney’s season ending races Saturday 30 November and while the dominant Fabio Tafani has already wrapped up the overall title, all eyes will be on a magnificent three-way scrap for the Silver Class championship.

Even better, Silver man Harry Tayler (Wolfburn Single Malt) won overall last time out to move up to third in the Silver title chase to move up to even points with Charl van Sittert (Serr Synergy) and eight behind Mike Brooks’ red Mustang-like machine, so it could not be closer — or more difficult to predict. To make it even more enticing, several other Silver men have the pace to run interference — Rhoderick Simpson, veteran racer Fanie Theron and Andrew Strike among them, while mystery V8 Masters rookie Jason Ibbotson’s pace will only be revealed come race day.

Tafani is one of several Masters drivers to travel down from Gauteng to race every meeting and he’s already wrapped up another overall and Gold Class title this year, so the focus there will be on the dice for second, where the rapid Richard Schreuder (TRS Security) is not completely safe from being overhauled by another quick driver, Sean Moore.  Brian Evans (Cape Eye Laser) sits a safe fourth, but there’s another close fight for fourth between Marcel Angel (Autohaus Angel), Mark Ridgway and Rob Warrington too, with Jozi visitor Rui Campos (Campos Transport) in that mix too.

V8 Masters drivers are all 40 years or older and race identical Ford V8-powered Mustang-like machines, mainly at Killarney, where the series is based. They do travel away from time to time, but the Masters are now ready for a blockbuster showdown between a full grid of cars in this season finale. They race on Saturday alongside a full program of WP championship finales — seems like Killarney will be the place to be 30 November — see you there...
