Ghazi all but wraps it up at Zwartkops

Dainfern youngster Ghazi Motlekar left Zwartkops with one hand on the 2020 South African Rotax Mini Max karting championship over the weekend. Motlekar has now won seven of the ten races in the class so far this season and is almost mathematically certain of the title. That, after adding three more wins at Zwartkops his whitewash four at the KZN season opener last month.

“Zwartkops was good!” Ghazi admitted. “Saturday was OK — I ended up with a second and a third, so we worked hard on the set-up of my kart and came back better prepared on Sunday. “That must have worked because we won three out of four from there and I was second in the other heat. “That means I have basically wrapped up the championship!”

“2020 has been a brilliant karting year for me — I have now won seven out of ten Mini Max nationals so far and we finished on the podium in every one of those races. “None of that comes easily.

“I need to thank uncle Hughie and Wesleigh Orr, my mechanic Stanley Hatem and the rest of my team for always giving me the best kart to race and most of all, my parents who have made all this possible! "I'd also like to thank the VKC for making my many practice days so pleasant!"

Ghazi will now concentrate on adding the Northern Regions championship to his national title as he prepares to realise a dream by competing in the Rotax Max World Finals in Portimao in Portugal in January.
