TreasuryOne Motorsport duo Hennie de Klerk and Adriaan Roets are champing at the bit in anticipation for the fourth round of the TIORC Northern Regions Off Road Racing cChampionship at Mareetsane southwest of Mahikeng on Saturday 29 May. An important facet of de Klerk and Roets’ Dakar 2022 preparation plans, the North West Province race is run over sandy terrain, precisely the conditions that former Dakar rookie winner Hennie specialises in.

“We are extremely excited about the route for this race,” Hennie explained. “I love the challenge of the dunes — for me racing on sand is much more of an equaliser between competitors. “Mareetsane is also one of the highlights of our Dakar preparations this year — it’s been a long time since off road raced in that wonderful area, which also suits us versus some of the championship roads that are better known.

“We will be racing the TreasuryOne BMW X3 once again this weekend while our Dakar Amarok undergoes its nuts and bolds break-down preparation for Saudi Arabia in January. “The team has worked hard on sorting some of the issues we have had with the X3 since it came back to us, so we’re hoping for a clean day in the dunes."
