Killarney’s first iLamunas 9 Hour race for jaloppies worth R50,000 or less proved a huge success with a strong field of new competitors to the series enjoying the fun and action packed endurance race on Saturday. But it was perhaps Dunlop Tyres that came home smiling the broadest as every car that finished the race still had Dunlop tyres aboard good enough to carry on racing for another nine hours.

“The Killarney iLamunas 9 Hour was a huge success,” Sumitomo Rubber South Africa PR & Events Manager Joanne de Freitas beamed. iLamunas races are for cars valued at less than fifty-thousand rand with up to four mostly amateur drivers in each team. We had only one lady driver and only four cars had ever raced in iLamunas before, so it was a brand new field and huge fun with next level laughs and banter throughout.

“The race was also most significant for us in that every one of the 37 cars entered raced on off-the-shelf Dunlop FM800 road tyres. The tyres performed beautifully and the competitor comments on our Dunlop Tyre performance was fantastic. Most say that they will just leave the tyres on for their next 9 Hour race!”

Team Dunlop also entered a car in the Killarney iLamunas 9 Hour. Not only did the crew of Dunlop management and dealers, and series owner Mark Castel star, but the men at the wheel were blown away by the racetrack performance of the street tyres they sell  every day.

“I learned so much about the discipline of racing and all that is involved, but most of all I came away super impressed by our Dunlop tyres that lasted the whole race brilliantly without fading,” Dunlop Zone Hi-Way Bande Dealer Principal Paul Van Jaarsveld admitted. “Thanks so much to Dunlop for the opportunity to race and for one of the most memorable experiences of my life. Now I’m hooked!” 

“Wow, what an incredibly fun event run in the spirit of great camaraderie as these rookie teams did their utmost to keep their cars in one piece to finish the race,” Dunlop Zone Tyrezone Dealer Principal Heinrich Kleinsmith beamed. “I was however gobsmacked by how brilliantly our outstanding standard Dunlop road tyres performed on track. That was quite astounding! Thank you Dunlop for your splendid support of Motorsport.”
