Giordano Lupini is looking to make up for lost ground when he steps back into cheapercars GTi Challenge Class B action aboard his Bullion IT Banhoek Chilli Oil Jetta at the series’ penultimate round action at Killarney Saturday 16 October. Lupini was caught out by his least competitive weekend of the GTi season being on the day when mist caused one of August’s two races to be cancelled and the second being scored on double points. But he’s ready to make good on Saturday.

“We took a bit of a knock last time out,” Gio admitted. “We had a few issues and then the second race was canned. “So that single third place really stung us! “But we've been working hard on our Bullion IT Banhoek Chilli Oil Jetta with the Nian du Toit Racing team and I'm looking forward to getting the best out of that effort. “Our competition is also wide awake though and we anticipate another great fight with Eden Thompson and the lads!”

Giordano is also thriving on his regional racing alongside his step up to nationals in his Bullion IT Polo Cup this season: “We have a little more freedom in the GTi Challenge rules, which means we are free to develop certain aspects of the Jetta and unlock performance. “I'm really enjoying that process with Nian, my dad and the team — we are always chasing a little advantage here, there and everywhere, so keeping our ’86 Jetta on pace with the latest kit really is a thrill!

“We found a few issues and fixed them since the last race and will be also trying some new tweaks this weekend. “So it will be interesting to see how all that pans out. “That’s a very different challenge to Polo Cup where we have a very strict set of rules, but both are just as difficult to master.” With Government Gazette confirming spectators are allowed again, Killarney was yet to confirms ticketing arrangements.
