Triple winners all the way in KZN karting

The KZN Kart Club’s late winter Rotax Max regional delivered a fine day of racing highlighted by dominant performances across the board on Sunday.

Local hotshot Brent Walden showed grit to recover from a Saturday practice crash to make the premier DD2 gearbox class his own with a trio of wins to take the day. Over-32 DD2 Masters man Jonno Pieterse played interference with youngsters Nicholas Wuite and Riley Horner. Fifth overall, Alistair Mingay fended off Shane Foley for second in Masters, followed by Richard van Heerde, Richard Horner and Chris Grobbelaar.

Ever popular Max Masters for the bigger and older guys who still want to race a chain driven solid axle kart thrilled as always, but nobody could do much about Allan John Rice trotting to a triple victory on the day. He left a tight battle in his wake as Peter John Garbutt emerged second from Alan Johnston, Robin Jeffrey, Yashil Ghazi, Shaun Yeld and James Stewart.

Yifan Li returned from injury to claim driver of the day as he continued the dominant trend with a Senior Max triple over the tussling Corban Spies, Juandre Nel, Jonno Pieterse, Hannah Daniel and Louden Bamford.Dhyvien Naidoo similarly did the under-15 Junior Max triple over Uzair Khan, Maahir Wahab, Jonno Wilson, Travis Yield and Dylan Watkins.

Travis Mingay took all three under 13 Mini Max wins, but he had to work to overcome the ever-improving Kyle Spies as they swapped throughout day. Harry Rowe, Troy Pieterse and Sebastian Geldenhuys followed. Ryan Falconer took Under 11 Micro Max and Kayden Pistauer Bambino honours.

The extremely competitive 4 stroke class saw Andrew Nivison dominate but not win all three races en route to popular 4 Stroke Sprint honours. Race 3 winner Kyle Nivison at least kept it in the family ahead of Peter John Garbut, Byron Campbell, Steve Christy and Lisa Mingay overall.

Rotax Max’s next regional stop is a double header this Saturday 20 August, with Gauteng action at Zwartkops and a Cape round at Killarney.
