Jordan & Caldarelli tighten grip on World Challenge America title

South African Jordan Pepper and Italy’s Andrea Caldarelli tightened their grip on the 2021 Fanatec GT World Challenge America championship when they powered their K-PAX Racing Lamborghini Huracan GT3 Evo to another dominant weekend clean sweep at Watkins Glen, New York. The pair took a double pole position before taking victory in both Saturday and Sunday’s races to take a formidable championship advantage into the next round at Sebring.

Pepper put the No. 3 Lamborghini on pole for Saturday’s opening 90-minute race before driving away. He handed the car over to Caldarelli, who took a 9.3-second win over Robby Foley’s Turner Motorsport BMW M6 GT3. Caldarelli then controlled Sunday's opening stint off his pole position, before Pepper cruised to the win. Jordan however slowed as the leading Lamborghini developed a vibration late in the race, to allow K-PAX teammate Corey Lewis, to close in to under two seconds.

“We had a mega weekend at the third round of the championship at Watkins Glen,” Jordan confirmed. “It was a crucial round for us — we went in with a 46-point championship lead and the goal quite simple — to score a double pole and win both races. “And that’s what we achieved. “The poles made life easier and we converted them into two race wins to open our lead to 63 points with two rounds to go. “We are really happy about that after Road America.

“Watkins Glen is one of the nicest tracks I've driven on — it has so much grip and is so fast, high speed with no room for error. “That makes the racing really exciting. “We are back where we wanted to be and are happy to have shown our potential and dominate, so we are pleased about that. “Our K-PAX team is doing an incredible job, we’re getting to know the cars better and better each weekend and I think we made a huge step at Watkins Glen.

“I’m really happy and enjoying my time out here racing in the US,” Jordan concluded. “Next stop is Sebring, lots of bumps are expected there so let’s see what that brings. “So yeah, maybe we can wrap up the championship before Indy — that would be good!”

Pepper and Caldarelli have won seven races in nine WCA rounds so far, six of them off pole position. The Sebring weekend sees the regular two Saturday and Sunday races on 2 and 3 October before World Challenge America joins the Intercontinental GT Challenge for its double points finale at the 8 Hours of Indianapolis.
