Wolk ahead as Global Touring Cars head to Delmas

Red Star Raceway near Delmas is Chemical Logistics Racing’s next destination for the midwinter, midseason Global Touring Car races, Saturday 2 July. Reigning champion Robert Wolk will arrive at the twisty and technical 13-corner Mpumalanga racetrack in a slender championship lead, after winning three of the six 2022 races so far. Teammate Julian van der Watt sits fourth despite winning two of the other heats and Andrew Rackstraw hopes to continue impressing as his season progresses.

Team leader Wolk has won a race at every meeting so far this season in his Chemical Logistics Toyota Corolla GTC, at Killarney in Cape Town, Zwartkops in Pretoria and at Gqeberha’s Aldo Scribante too. He has no intention of letting up either. “We have had a win a meeting and there’s no reason why that trend should stop now!” Robbie warned. “I’d like to have been in a stronger title position, but we have some tough competition this year and I’ve been a little unlucky with penalties. “Still, we have worked hard and are ready to extend our advantage at Red Star.”

Mr Reverse Grid, Julian van der Watt had a great start to his season, winning the reverse grid second races in both Cape Town and Pretoria, but he had a Port Elizabeth weekend to forget in his Chemical Logistics Ford Focus RS GTC. "Now we need to get back to winning ways in Delmas,” Julian promised. “Our race pace has been great, especially in the reverse grid races, so the plan is to climb back on top of the GTC podium at Red Star.”

GTC rookie, reigning Investchem Formula 1600 champion Andrew Rackstraw has shown regular good form aboard his older GTC specification Investchem RDSA Audi and he’s once again looking to box out of his boots at Red Star. “We are looking forward to a great weekend in the old girl at Red Star,” Andrew explained. “Delmas is one of those weekends where anything can happen, so we hope to take advantage of some good opportunities. “Bring it on!”

Team manager and WCT Engineering boss Stuart Thompson is delighted with progress and can't wait for the Red Star races either. “We have had a good start to the season with Robbie and Julian winning five of the six races and Andrew doing great things with an old chassis so far. “We will be looking for more of the same at Red Star.” Team principal Ian Schofield concluded, “The lads have had a great season so far and there’s no reason that should not continue in Delmas – go give them hell guys!”
