Charl Michael ahead in South African Endurance Series chase
Multitalented Cape Town race driver Charl Michael Visser stepped up and defied the conditions to lead a young Adjust4sleep Motul RBR Nova Proto NP02 team to victory in a treacherous South African Endurance Series 5 Hours of Aldo Scribante over the weekend. Visser took up the lead role aboard the Proto with regular codrivers Nick Adcock and Michael Jensen racing in a European Le Mans Series round.
Charl Michael helped put the Proto on pole position with a quick 57 second qualifying lap, before taking the car over from young substitute codrivers Weylin Volschenk and Barend Pretorius with just over two hours left to race. “Conditions were not ideal when I took over as it had just started to rain and the Proto is not quite as agile as our GT3 rivals in those intermediate conditions,” Charl Michael reported.
“I had a lot of fun racing them, but then it really started to rain heavily, which played directly into our hands, especially after I stopped for full wet weather tyres. The car was absolutely incredible in those conditions and I was able to control the race from there to ultimately take an easy victory and retain my lead in the South African Endurance Series Championship.
“I must complement my codrivers Weylin and Barend on an excellent job and thank the entire Rico Barlow team, my race engineers Francois and Nivesh, my trusted mechanic Zeffrey, my folks and Caite for all the support. Let’s just say I cannot wait for the next race!”
