If the opening round of the 2021 Investchem Formula 1600 championship at Killarney is anything to go by, Cape Town lad Andrew Rackstraw will arrive in Pretoria with a target on his back at Zwartkops’ second round races Saturday 17 April. Rackstraw laid a firm claim on the series’ quarter-million rand champion's prize and plum test drives at the end of the year with a dominant performance at the season opener at his home track last month. 

Andrew however now ventures into less familiar territory, and while he has often proven competitive at Zwartkops in the past, the home town advantage now defers to the Gauteng local lot, including young gun Jarrod Waberski's DAW Racing Mygale and the ever-competitive Nicholas van Weely in a Magnificent Paints & Hardware van Diemen, who were Rackstraw’s closest rivals in Cape Town last time out.

Josh le Roux’s Mygale and Ewan Holtzhausen's Total Plastics Mygale will be out to prove a point in Pretoria too, while Andrew Schofield will be keen to bounce back from a frustrating season opener in his Investchem Safair Mygale. Alex Vos' Ecurie Zoo Van Diemen and Brendan Tracey's Investchem Mygale were also in the thick of it in the Cape. They are joined by Geldenhuys brothers Gerard and Antwan's Abacus Divisions Mygales this weekend.

Andrew Rackstraw currently leads the richest title race in South Africa on 21 points after the first two rounds. It's close in second with young Jarrod Waberski on 14 and the experienced Nicholas van Weely on 12 points; Josh le Roux and Alex Vos on 9 points and Ewan Holtzhausen just two points behind them in sixth. 

Spectators are not allowed at Zwartkops due to ongoing lockdown protocols but the races will be live streamed via Zwartkops Raceway’s Extreme Festival Facebook Group.
