National Championship in its own right

South Africa’s Vortex Rok karting category has confirmed that the 60cc Mini Rok class will race as a national championship as planned for 2017, but the under-13 class will run apart from the Rotax Max national roadshow.

Mini Rok will instead race in Vortex’ own Rok Cup SA series alongside regional championships for Micro Rok Cub, Micro Rok, CIK-FIA Academy Trophy, Junior Rok Warrior and Senior Warrior over six rounds this year. Four Mini Rok nationals will happen, two of which will run among the six regionals, with two additional rounds run as part of existing race days ay Killarney in Cape Town and either  in the Eastern Cape or KwaZulu Natal.

“The Mini Rok class will still retain the same national championship status it enjoyed in 2016, for competitors in the year of their 8th birthday through to their 13th birthday which on or before 31 December, in line with Rok International Cup regulations. ”, a series statement confirmed.

“We are delighted that our request has been confirmed by the Karting Commission President and MSA to allow us to focus purely on our local Rok Cup SA Club Championship locally and in the Rok International Cup World Finals.”
