But Ogier is fighting back for Ford

Hyundai's Thierry Neuville took charge of the Monte Carlo Rally on Friday, but Sebastien Ogier was back up to second after sliding off the road on the first stage of the day and in spite of struggling with slushy conditions while running first on the road.

But the Ford driver won the day's final two stages to close down the gap to the leader as he leapfrogged teammate Ott Tanak into second. Tanak  ended 0.3 seconds behind of Ogier in third ahead of Toyota's Jari-Matti Latvala, Dani Sordo in the next Hyundai and  Craig Breen in a previous-generation Citroen DS3.

Andreas Mikkelsen continued to dominate WRC2 in seventh overall, ahead of the struggling Elfyn Evans.
