Smit takes trouble in stride, ends second
Seven-year old Joshua Smit from Belville made the most of a difficult weekend’s racing to emerge second overall in the Cadet class in Saturday’s Killarney WP karting opening round.
“I struggled in qualifying and then we just had no power in race 1,” the Totius Primary Grade 2 learner explained. “Then my chain came off on the last lap, so I think I was lucky to finish third and a lap down.
“We borrowed a spare engine for race 2 and I just never had the power to hang on to Reese Koorzen, but I am so happy that I managed to finish second for the day – it could have been much worse.
“My dad has a little work to do on that engine, so Reece will have something to think about next race!”
