Cape Town driver Julian van der Watt heads to Pretoria on a six-race unbeaten run in the SA Investchem Formula 1600 championship when the series races at Zwartkops Raceway Youth Day Friday 16 June. But van der Watt remains wary of the threat of a gaggle of young guns ready and willing to topple him from his comfort zone.

“There is a gang of fifteen and sixteen year-olds baying for my blood,” Julian admitted. “Some of them have been improving all the time - they are top ex-karters like me, so they know what to do and they are getting better at racing cars every time they sit in one. “My principal rival Stuart White will be back and there are a few other very quick drivers out there who would love to beat me.
