Charl, Kyle score in the Midlands

Visser brothers Charl and Kyle returned home to Cape Town happy after strong points hauls in both their classes at iDube’s third round South African Karting Championship races in the KZN Midlands. Charl consolidated his second position in the high school Junior Max title chase, while kid brother Kyle stole a hard fought fourth in primary school Maxterino.

“I am very happy with my championship so far,” South Africa’s CIA-FIA Academy karter Charl admitted. “I have not won a race yet but I’m only five points behind Jason Coetzee in the championship. “I think my overseas experience is helping me but I need to win now so my rivals don’t catch me out when they drop less points than me when we throw away our worst three scores of the year.

“I had a great dice for lead with Sebastian Boyd, Dominic Lincoln and Jason Coetzee and ended up third in race 1 and then I started race 2 in 5th and picked off Coetzee and Boyd to finish second with the fastest lap to start race 3 in pole. “But I had a bad first lap and had to fight back from 7th to third, once again setting fastest lap to end up third for the day — I’m happy with that!”

Young Kyle was not happy to qualify in ninth, but he enjoyed a good dice to end up 7th race 2. “Then I moved up from seventh to fifth, but I had the second quickest time so I was on the front row for the final where we had a furious 9-kart battle for second. “I dropped as low as 8th before fighting back to fourth and I was very happy to sneak fourth overall for the day.”

“Thanks to everyone for the help,” Charl concluded. “Especially my dad for everything he does for both of us - now I hope we can really score well at Zwartkops in September — the title is on the line!”

The Vissers will race at home at Killarney next where they will continue in their Western Cape Junior Max and Maxterino championship pursuits Saturday 22 July.
