Fifteen wins from sixteen starts the target

Newly crowned Investchem South African Formula Ford champion Julian van der Watt returns from a whirlwind international trip to close off his Formula 1600 season in the style he has led it from the start.

Van der Watt first flew to the US, where he enjoyed a positive test with Formula 2000 team Pelfrey, before putting in a stunning drive, storming from the back to end tenth in the International Formula Ford Festival at Brands Hatch in the UK and then jetting to Abu Dhabi’s Yas Marina circuit for another impressive test in Dragon Racings GT3 Ferrari.

Julian is now back in SA, ready and waiting to pick up where he left off with his thirteenth win in fourteen starts at home at Killarney last time out. “We have had an exceptional season,” Julian reflected. “We have raced Formula 1600 for three seasons now and I was a very close runner up in the first two, but this year has been incredible and I owe a huge word of thanks to my team - my dad, Claudio Piazza-Musso of Race Driver SA, Ian Schofield from Investchem and everyone else who made this dream come true.

“We have recently had a good look at what there is to do overseas, so let’s see where we end up, but for now we need to finish off his year’s racing and I hope to reward my team with more of the same, even if I have a few really quick kids snapping at my heels! “Let’s do this!”
