Tough end to Pepper Racing’s season

Tasmin Pepper overcame a series of problems to fight back to close off her Engen Volkswagen Cup season with a competitive fourth position in race 2 to rescue an unlikely fifth overall at Kyalami’s final round Motorsport Festival on Saturday. Teammate Daniel Duminy meanwhile ended up tenth overall after an adventurous day at the races.

“That was a pretty disastrous weekend,” CamposTransport/Alpine VW Pepper Racing Polo pilot Tasmin owned up. “I struggled with pace on Friday as we couldn’t get the car to handle the way it needed to and then my gearbox broke in qualifying, which meant I had to start in the middle of the pack. “I was bullied in the first race, but I had a pretty decent race from there and came through the field to steal ninth in the end.

“The second race turned out really well though and I had an awesome dice with the guys and was able to set the fastest lap of the weekend. “Overall it was a tough season, but we had a lot of fun as a team and I’m looking forward to what next year brings — special thanks to the guys for a great season.”

Daniel Duminy likewise struggled with pace on Friday to wind up 12th on the grid before delivering a 12th and an 11th in his two sorties to finish 10th overall in the SMD Pepper Racing Polo. “Kyalami was a tough end to a tough season,” Daniel admitted. “Thanks to the team for all their work through the season — let’s see what 2018 brings…”
