Mostert after kart wins, best school marks

Seven year old Luan Mostert is raring to go when the 2018 karting season commences with the opening round of the Western Province series at Killarney Saturday 10 February. Mostert is looking forward to a competitive season in the under-8 Cadet class following his first full season of racing last year.

“We had a really cool holiday, but when I came back, I could not fit in my kart anymore,” Luan grinned. “I have grown since the last time we drove, but Tio Kito had to adjust my seat and move it backwards. “After that, it was as if I was never away — we were quick right out the box and I really can’t wait to race on Saturday.

“This year our goal is to win our first race and many more after that, but that won't be easy because the guys I have to beat are also very good drivers and they have all put in plenty laps of practice too, so it's going to be quite a fight. "I have a very good team though — Kito Kart is helping me grow every race and my kart is always perfect.”

Asked how his racing affects his schoolwork, Luan was adamant that his grades still come first. “It’s just like soccer or cricket or any other sport -- school is important and if I want to race my parents need me to do my best at school, so it’s hard work on and off track so I can show my mom all those 7s on my report. “I also want to enjoy 2018 season and to be a good sportsman like my grandfather Franco.”
