Advantage Caleb Tennant in SA motocross

Q4 Fuel Husqvarna Racing heads to Welkom’s sixth round 2018 TRP Distributors SA National Motocross Championship races Saturday 8 August in a powerful position with Caleb Tennant leading both the MX1 and MX2 title chases, Maddy Malan also on a charge in those two open classes and young Neil van der Vyver looking for even better, fresh off his best 65cc results to date.

Tenant delivered a heroic performance last time out with a powerful win over Malan in a Q4 Fuel Husqvarna 1-2 in 250cc MX2, but he had to come back from a sizeable MX1 moto 1 first lap crash to ride from the back to a painful but incredible third. Clearly in agony, Tennant then raced to second in the second MX1 moto to head to Welkom leading both championships.

“My home race in Cape Town was a huge weekend,” Caleb admitted. “We had our challenges, but we came back still leading both championships, so hopefully Welkom will prove a less complicated weekend and we can come away happy. “I have an incredible team behind me and our brand new 2019 Q4 Fuel Husqvarnas are just awesome to ride, so I just can’t wait to get back on a bike in anger — bring on Welkom!”

Pietermaritzburg rider Maddy Malan is also looking forward to the Free State weekend. “We had a great run last time out and these 2019 Husqvarna motocrossers are incredible to ride,” Maddy pointed out. “We are out to prove that even further in Welkom — I’m well placed in both championships, so it’s all to do — my great team will give me brilliant bikes to ride as usual so it’s time to get the very best out of my new Husqvarnas.”

Cape Town youngster Niel van der Vyver meanwhile heads upcountry off his best results in the schoolboy 65cc class to date after coming home second at home last time out. “I scored my best 65cc results in Cape Town,” reigning SA 50cc champion Niel explained. “I’m now up to fourth in the championship and just eight points behind second place, so it’s going to be a thrilling weekend in Welkom— I can’t wait.”

“I’m not sure if it’s a blessing or a curse to head into the last few races of the season with Caleb leading both titles,” Husqvarna Motorcycles South Africa Brand Manager, Fred Fensham concluded. “But we are up there for very good reason so there’s no reason why we cannot increase the advantage in Welkom — Q4 Husqvarna Racing and Caleb, Maddy and Neil are ready to deliver the goods this weekend.”
