Charl, Kyle star on new kart class debuts

Durbanville’s double reigning South African karting champion brothers, Charl and Kyle Visser picked up where they left off at the opening round of the 2019 Western Province karting championships at Killarney on Saturday. Both excelled on their steps into new classes this year as SA Junior Max champion Charl dominated on his Senior Max debut, while 11-year old SA Mini Max champion Kyle ended second on his under-15 Junior Max debut.

“That was the perfect start to my 2019 season and our Senior Max campaign, "Charl admitted after being in a class of his own on Saturday. “I miss the under-15 Junior Max World Final age limit by a few minutes,” the lad who turned 15 on New Year’s Day pointed out. “So we are racing Senior Max this year and we had the perfect start — now we need to keep it going this way through the WP season, into the nationals and beyond."

“I really enjoyed my Junior Max debut and I’m delighted with second place today,” Kyle explained. “I had to raise my game to fight Tate Bishop in the final and I'm really enjoying driving the bigger and more powerful kart.” Unlike brother Charl, 11-year old Kyle steps to under-15 Junior Max early in his karting career. “We thought that having won all the under-13 titles last year we should rather concentrate on Junior now, so I am really excited by our pace today.

“Thanks as always to the Charl Electric team — my dad, Bigshow and everyone who have made such an effort to make this happen — we have all put in the time and hard work and it is paying off in our results.” Durbanville's karting Vissers are back in action at Killarney’s round 2 of the WP championships in just two weeks.
