Jason, Keegan confident ahead of Zwartkops

Campos brothers Jason and Keegan are keen to continue on their positive start to the 2019 Falken Volkswagen Polo Cup, when the series heads to its second round at Zwartkops Saturday 6 April. The brothers had never raced at the KZN Dezzi Raceway before the opening round, which delivered perhaps better than expected results, so the duo is raring to go at the Pretoria circuit they know intimately better.

Jason put his Turn 1 Insurance Polo into the top six pole position shootout at Dezzi to start third ,before bringing it home second and ninth in the two races to clinch fifth overall and head to Zwartkops in joint fourth position in the title chase. “We went to Dezzi a little nervous about never raced there before and I came back in a pretty handy championship position and with a fastest lap in pocket,” elder sibling Jason admitted.

“Now we come to a circuit I know very well — I’d say that Zwartkops is pretty much our home track and I am far more confident going into battle at the Pretoria racetrack than I was at Dezzi — my Turn 1 Insurance Polo Cup is ready, I am ready and its almost time to race. “That said, like Dezzi, Zwartkops is always a tough weekend, so I will not get ahead of myself,  but bring it on!”

Keegan just missed the pole shootout with seventh on the Dezzi grid in his Campos Transport Polo and had a strong run, before dropping back after an incident. He then bounced back to end up fourth in the second race on the KZN South Coast, ending up classified ninth overall but lying seventh in the championship.

“Dezzi was a bit of a rollercoaster for me but the second race was very good and I plan to capitalise on that, especially at a track I head to more confident to race on,” Keegan explained. “We know Zwartkops very well and we have a great team behind us — I am really looking forward to having W Series heroine Tasmin Pepper in our corner in Pretoria too — that’s always a cool advantage! “See you at Zwartkops."
