Dominating motor races does not go down too well with your rivals — if anything it sharpens their resolve to beat you, enhancing the victory challenge even further. That’s exactly the challenge Giordano Lupini will face when he arrives at Killarney for the third round of the Burly Pro GTi Challenge championship Saturday 13 April.

“I suppose I have earned the target on my back," Franschhoek youngster Lupini admitted. “We have had a brilliant season as far as results go so far and we're leading the GTi Challenge overall, so on the face of it, it’s all good. “But my rivals are after my blood and I am dead set on fighting them off, so bring it on!”

Lupini enjoyed the race of his life last time out, bouncing back from a devastating crash that destroyed his yellow Accelerate 102/CIR Construction/La Vie de Luc VW Golf on Friday morning, to dominate on Saturday and move into the overall championship lead after a superhuman team effort to ready a replacement car overnight. “That was an incredible rollercoaster weekend of lows and highs, but I really prefer simpler race meetings,” Giordano admitted. 

“Our comeback effort however had a significant impact on our budget and we have also rather concentrated on refining the new car since, so there’s been no time to make it look pretty yet and we will be running it plain black again on Saturday. “So, I’m excited to see what we can do — it would be great to go six in a row, but the further one gets into a winning run, the closer we get to it coming to an end, so the target is maximum points to consolidate our championship lead.
