East London GP Circuit action this weekend

Motor racing returns to the East London Grand Prix circuit for the third round of the Border Regional Motor Racing Championships Saturday 11 May with a full program of local regional action including Border Modified, Historic and Motorcycle action ready to impress.

The Border region plays host to among the finest Historic racing series in SA and Saturday sees the next bout of the V8 rich class packed full of South African racing classics. Ford Capri Perana V8s are a popular weapon of choice in the Border Region and Darron Gudmanz' (Car Connexion) and Danian Staffan’s (du Randt’s) will once again fight it out with Mike Forsyth's Cobra, while Alec Gudmanz Class B Perana will have Chris Landman’s quick Toyota to deal with.

Johan van der Westhuizen and his massive Ford Fairlane and Class C rival Mathew Gudmanz’s wieldy Datsun SSS will make for another David and Goliath battle, while the Escorts of Graham Lessing, Shane and Carl Fantham and Gary Schultz' Anglia are set to entertain as always in Class D, while Andrew Karshagen's Capri takes on Quinton Bates and Graeme Musto’s Minis in Class E.

The top class Border Modifieds should be the quickest cars on the day with Bevan Schwarz’ Corvette and Johan van der Westhuizen's Hi-Way Motors Camaro out front ahead of a unique variety of Class B men; Kean Barnard’s GB Fitment Harper V8, Francwa Coetzee (Stutt Garage Tigra), Sean Hurley (Genuine Caterham R400) and Bruce Butler’s HR Focus Nardini. Class C racers, Treadz Tyres pair Chris Farley (BMW M3) and Quentin Lessing (Mitsubishi Lancer Evo) will slug it out with Julian Herman (Strictly Polo Turbo), Nicholas Naude (Peugeot 206) and Class D man Cameron Hall (Champion Motors BMW).

Class D should make for a most entertaining dice as always, with Hall, Leeroy Randall (Strictly Dynamic Nissan 200 SX), Alwyn Kretzman, Bevan Choudree, Richard Clarke’s Honda Civic, Brent Strydom, Jeff Hall and Cherne Marais (GB Fitment Golf) doing battle, while Class E will see Sharniel Holmes (Selego Golf) fighting it out with Melindre Marais, Ashton Nel, Jared de Kock, Shaun Vallance and Class F lad Eli Vergara.

Don’t forget the two-wheelers where Jason Lamb is out to continue his dominance of the Border Motorcycles aboard his unlimited class Spindrift Kawasaki. Supersport Pro gang Travis Naude, Travis Warne (Kawasaki) and Chris Webster will however be keen to stop Lamb, while Nathan Ashington and Bradley Rehse (Yamaha) will fight it out with Clubmans gang, Pierre le Roux, Lodewyk Hattingh, Gerrie Havenga and Sazi Patela.
