Jordan eyeing a Kyalami win to clinch ICGT championship

South Africa’s Bentley Boy Jordan Pepper arrived home with a spring in his step on Wednesday, as he prepares to fight for the Intercontinental GT Championship crown at the Kyalami 9 Hour Saturday 12 December. Pepper and teammates, Jules Gounon and Maxime Soulet sit just three points behind the championship leaders in third in the title chase. So it's a case of win or bust in the epic Johannesburg race for the Bentley Boys and their Continental GT3.

"To win the championship, we must win the Kyalami 9 Hour,” Jordan explained. “So very simply, the plan is to win the race and the championship. "That would be such an awesome send-off for the team, considering that this weekend is the final outing for Bentley as a factory squad.”

Pepper, Gounon and Soulet started the season off in splendid style by winning the Bathurst 12 Hour in Australia, just before lockdown intervened. Then Jordan was taken out of the lead by an errant in the Indianapolis 8 Hour in the US in September. The Bentley Boys fought back to steal a point before another points paying finish in the dramatic Spa 24 Hour in Belgium in October.

“It’s been a mad second half of the year and we have been all around the world en route to Kyalami,” Jordan pointed out. “We are third in the title chase with the top three cars covered by just three points, so it’s going to be an incredible weekend. “We're putting everything on the table this weekend. We are going all out for a win.

“It won't be easy — it’s a small field, but we're racing and the drivers are the best GT pilots in the world. "The weather is predictable with Jo’burg’s summer thunderstorms, so anything can happen — it’s going to be nine hours of hustle and a crazy fight. “So I'm really looking forward to it and we are all hoping to end the season and the championship on a high — bring it on!”

Lockdown restrictions mean no spectators are allowed at the Kyalami 9 Hour. Fans can however catch every session and all nine hours live on SRO Motorsports Group’s GT World Youtube channel from next Friday. DSTV SuperSport will also cover the Kyalami 9 Hour live throughout the 12 December weekend.
