Alibhai to Ramp Up Ginetta Junior Title Push
South African Aqil Alibhai is looking forward to getting his British Ginetta Junior championship attack into top gear over the next fortnight. Alibhai had a positive run at the recent Donington season opener, but a change to a back-up engine early in that weekend hampered his race pace, leaving the Ormonde, Johannesburg youngster fully focussed on both the forthcoming Brand Hatch second round 14-15 May, two weeks before round 3 at Thruxton.
“All considered, I was very relieved to get away with eighth at the season-opener,” Aqil admitted. “Now we have six races in two weeks to fight our way into the top end of the championship fight, so I’m most excited to head to Brands Hatch and Thruxton for rounds two and three. “We are racing on the shorter, tighter Brands Indy circuit, so that should be epic, and Thruxton is also always a a most exciting prospect.
“We were unlucky to lose that engine early on at Donington. “The replacement wasn’t quite as sprightly, but no matter, that’s racing. “Now we just need a good, clean weekend or two under out belts to get our championship fully on track — can’t wait, bring it on!”
