At 11 years old Aqil Alibhai was South Africa's youngest regular international competitor, switching between competing in the South African and Northern Regions primary school age group Maxterino 60cc karting championship and the Super One British Cadet karting championship. He subsequently returned to South Africa where he was consistently quick  through his karting career, twice winning the African Junior Max title. He also represented South Africa in the Wold Finals. From Ormonde in Johannesburg when not travelling overseas, Aqil returned abroad to start his car racing career in the Ginetta Junior championship, which racing he says is toughening him up as he learns the British and European scene in preparation of a future racing career. Aqil moved to the crack Elite racing squad for 2022, before switching to British Formula 4 with Virtuosi for 2023.
