South Africa’s leading tools supplier, Vermont Sales has added foremost international machine tool brand Maykestag alongside its well established Alpen drill bit range in Southern Africa. While Alpen drill bits is a most respected and very well established offering in the local market, its sister brand Maykestag is now also available in SA. Vermont now markets the famous Austrian brands will sit side-by-side in the local market. 

“Austrian Alpen-Maykestag has 70 years of history in cutting-tool manufacturing stretching back to 1957,” Vermont Sales marketing manager Ryan Hunt explains. “The company comprises several specialist tool manufacturers and their expertise that have come together over the years to create an international machine bit force operating out of Salzburg in Austria.

“Vermont Sales has for a long time already distributed and supported Alpen drill bits and related products to the local market. Now we are delighted to launch its incredible sister range of Maykestag products in Southern Africa. From today, we will market, sell and support Alpen and Maykestag as complementary brands to serve a far broader market across the subcontinent.”

Alpen continues as is, as the traditional drilling specialist with a broad range of bits for any application from metal to woodwork, construction, and other sectors. Maykestag now enters the local market to focus on industrial metalworking and precision machining with a comprehensive range of cutters, reamers, countersinks and more.

“It is important to note that Alpen and Maykestag are not just two unrelated products being brought together on a single sales venture,” Vermont Sales product manager Dale Engelbrecht points out. “They are two complementary brands within the same Austrian company, and each has its own specific area of expertise.

“Alpen has always given us drilling capability. Now Maykestag brings far more depth as it covers every industrial machining and metal-cutting application. Both brands share the same Austrian manufacturing heritage, engineering expertise and focus on quality and performance. And now both are backed by the Vermont Sales force in Southern Africa.”

So, while Alpen will continue to deliver its world renowned drill bits, new to Southern Africa Maykestag cutters, reamers, taps and other special tools and will focus more on CNC machining and more demanding industrial applications across the subcontinent.
