Visser sets Kyalami mark in 4 Hour race winning Nova
Charl Michael Visser came home with a new Kyalami lap record as the Cape Town lad played a significant role in Nova Proto NP02 sportscar he shared with Nick Adcock and Michael Jensen to win the four hour endurance race at the iconic circuit on Saturday. Visser had earlier led the Adjust for Sleep Rico Barlow Racing team to pole position, before smashing the record on his penultimate lap in his final stint of the race.
“I was delighted to get the call-up to join Nick and Michael in the Proto at Kyalami,” 2023 Polo Cup champion Charl Michael, who has concentrated on SATC SupaCup and Rotax Senior Max karting programs so far in 2025 admitted. “I’m super proud to now add my name to the long and illustrious list of outright Kyalami record holders with a 1 minute 40.120 lap, two tenths of a second clear of the previous mark.”
It’s also another major South African lap record for Charl who set a new Zwartkops lap record in the same car last year. “Conditions were perfect late in the race at Kyalami as temperatures came down and the car was basically on rails. I then had a clear track in front of me on the second last lap and I was able to blast in a record tour, before bringing it home for the win.
“Thanks to Nick for the opportunity once again, and to him and Michael for faultless drives to enable us to win the race too, and to Rico Barlow and his team for a great weekend,” Charl concluded “Also to Craig Nunns and Claudio Piazza Musso on the chassis and data, my mechanic Zeffrey and my mom a d dad and brother Kyle for all the support.”
Briton Adcock, Dane Jensen and Visser’s Proto won the South African Endurance Series Four Hour by over a minute from Into Africa crew Xolile Letlaka, Stuart White and Axcil Jefferies’ Lamborghini and Stradale Racing Audi duo, Bradley Liebenberg and Ryan Naicker.
