Kyle Visser scores maiden win at Killarney home track

Seventeen year-old Cape Town grade 11 student Kyle Visser delivered a stunning trio of drives to not only score his maiden Astron Energy Polo Cup race win, but two seconds on the day also contributed to him winning his Killarney home race weekend overall.

“I will never, ever forget today, this is the best day of my racing career,” a jubilant Kyle admitted. “My Volkswagen Motorsport team gave me the perfect Polo Cup today. I qualified well, scored my best result yet with second in the opening race, and then went one better in heat 2. Then another second place was good enough to bag the winner’s trophy, which I dedicate to my Volkswagen Motorsport team. Thank you all so much!

“Polo Cup is a very difficult nut to crack, with the best young drivers in the country racing in one of the toughest classes in the country to master. It is a fine art to understand this car, turn the tyres on when it is most important to, and deal with the conditions, but I’m delighted to have won within my first year in the series, which is something not many others have achieved.”

Young Kyle earned his factory Polo Cup seat by winning the inaugural Volkswagen Rookie Cup in 2023, something his win on Saturday certainly further vindicated. “What can I say about Kyle,” Mike Rowe, Head of Volkswagen Motorsport South Africa added. “He drove brilliantly to step up to the podium with a second and his first win, before delivering another second, to take the Astron Energy Polo Cup day overall and deliver on his 2023 Rookie Cup promise.”

Kyle Visser started racing Cadet karts at five years old in 2011, soon winning that regional title before adding several other regional and national karting titles to his championship portfolio. He then stepped up to cars, where he quickly proved his worth by winning the Volkswagen Rookie Cup. That earned Kyle his 2024 rookie drive in Astron Energy Polo Cup.

“I would like to thank everyone who has had a part in my racing career so far, but most importantly my parents and my brother, who have been most instrumental from the very beginning. I trust my progress has made them, and my Volkswagen Motorsport team all very proud.”
