2026 DD2 crown is Charl Michael’s seventh National title
Cape Town driver Charl Michael Visser added a seventh South African National Rotax Max karting title to his racing CV when he stormed to the 2026 DD2 title at the National Finals at Zwartkops in Pretoria on Saturday.
In so doing, Visser has now won a National title at every level of Rotax karting and has qualified for his sixth Rotax ‘Olympics of Karting’ Grand Finals in Portugal in November. A former Polo Cup champion Charl Michael also leads the 2026 South African Endurance championship.
“That was the perfect end to a brilliant Rotax National karting season,” Charl reported as he picked up his Grand Final ticket. “We won eleven of the premier National direct drive gearbox Rotax DD2 karting races this year and I was second and third in the other two.
“I could never have pulled this off on my own and must thank my brilliant team for a perfect kart every heat and all the support through the season. So here’s to my Toyota Gazoo Racing Academy KR Kart team, Leeroy Poulter and Postman Pat, my engineer Zefrey Africa and of course, my mum, dad, brother Kyle, and Caite for the support.
Charl Michael’s racing season is nowhere near over, however. “There are still the small matters of the Rotax Grand Finals in November, and the rest of the National Endurance Series, where I’m ahead in the championship,” Visser concludes. “So let’s see if we can also add to my overall Kyalami and Zwartkops circuit lap records too!”
