Van der Vyver, Malan score in Welkom
Q4 Fuels Husqvarna Racing came back from a wild weekend of the penultimate round 2019 South African National Motocross Championship action in Welkom with both its riders squarely in championship contention in their respective classes. 11 year-old Neil van der Vyver took a win and a second in primary school 65cc motocross to place one hand on that title, while Maddy Malan took a second and a third in the Free State to head to the finale in a wild-four man open class MX1 title fight.
“Today was good!” Neil van der Vyver summed it up. “I took a win and a second to take the win for the day and open my title advantage up on my main title challenger by a couple of points — we now just need to finish sixth in one of the two last races to wrap it up, so I can’t wait for Terra Topia. Thanks so much to my Q4 Fuels Husqvarna family - this has been an incredible season, now I am just counting sleeps until the finals!"
“I rode my heart out, but we just never had an answer for Tristan Purdon today,” Maddy Malan explained. “Still, we head to the final with five points in it and pressure from behind too — it’s been an incredible season and a fantastic fight that’s now going down to the last corner of the final moto of the season and I can’t wait for that! “I could not do this without a special team behind me — huge thanks to the incredible Q4 Fuels Husqvarna squad — this one’s going down to the wire!"
“Q4 Fuels Husqvarna Racing is proud of both our motocross riders,” Husqvarna Motorcycles South Africa brand manager Fred Fensham concluded. “Neil and Maddy have been on point all season and we now start preparing for the final round with two titles up for grabs - go get them guys!"
